About Our Museum
The present Platte County Historical Society Museum, located in Columbus, Nebraska, consists of two modern building additions to the centerpiece original ward school built in 1912. Exhibits include local Native American artifacts, Buffalo Bill Cody memorabilia and history, the 1857 Gottschalk log cabin furnished with era-appropriate artifacts, authentic turn-of-the-century schoolroom and barbershop, rooms of Victorian clothing, furnishings and heirlooms, military memorabilia complementing the Andrew Higgins National Memorial also located in Columbus, a 1913 Indian Motorcycle, a 1914 Chevrolet Baby Grand Touring car, the impact of being at the crossroads of the Lincoln and Pan American Highways, photos and documentation of the 1930’s Loup Canal Construction Project, and displays created by each community in Platte County.

The business and affairs of the Platte County Historical Society are managed by a Board of Directors consisting of not less than 7 and not more than 13 directors serving alternating three-year terms. Current board members and 2023 officers are as follows:

Meeting Room Rental Form
Conditions of Rental:
Cost of Rental: $150
*Food is allowed in the meeting room but cannot be prepared in the facility No alcoholic beverages are allowed on the premises. Soft drink beverages can be brought in for consumption. Coffee can be made in the kitchen area, but the coffee and condiments must be furnished by the persons renting to room. Cups, plastic-ware, plates, etc. involved also must be furnished by the persons renting the meeting room.
*Smoking is not allowed in the complete facility
*The room must be cleaned at the end of the session and all trash generated using the room must be removed during clean-up.
*Use of the room must not be extended past 11 PM (this includes clean-up)
*All tables and chairs must be returned to their original position as they were found.
