Blizzard of 1888—The School Children’s Blizzard

May 5 @ 2:00 pm

The Great Blizzard of 1888 is also known as The Schoolchildren’s Blizzard because it struck with almost no warning in the middle of the day on January 12th. Children were snowed in at schoolhouses across a large portion of the country.

Three Nebraska country school teachers – Loie Royce of Plainfield, Etta Shattuck of Holt county, and Minnie Freeman of Mira Valley, were the subjects of much newspaper writing.

The program will be presented by Riley Scott.
